About EnviroTest

Bob Strong, the founder of EnviroTest has more than 40 years construction and environmental testing experience. A native of Portland, Oregon, Bob spent twenty years in the U.S. Coast Guard gaining much of his construction knowledge as well as specializing in marine environmental protection. After returning to civilian life, he studied for and passed the test to become a licensed general contractor. Under his license, he operated a very successful residential maintenance and repair business for seventeen years, retiring in 2013.

Over the years, Bob had been staying up-to-date on changing regulations in order to provide accurate information on his weekly home improvement radio show, Around the House with Handyman Bob.

In December, 2015, Portland Metro established a new requirement that contractors needed to have an accredited person conduct an asbestos survey prior to starting any demolition or renovation project. Almost immediately, Bob began getting calls from his network of remodeling contractors, seeking his advice, expertise, and contacts at local regulatory agencies.

Seeing the opportunity to help contractors and homeowners alike, Bob came out of retirement. He became a Certified Asbestos Building Inspector and EnviroTest was born.

On April 1, 2017, Metro announced additional asbestos related restrictions on construction and demolition waste being delivered to the transfer stations for disposal. To help spread the word, Handyman Bob brought some special guests into the studio for his weekly radio show. One of these guests was Kandice (Kandi) Carlson.

Kandi is a graduate of Portland State University’s Environmental Engineering program and has a strong business background in both the transportation and hospitality industries. She had recently qualified for her federal license as an Asbestos Building Inspector. Almost immediately, she and Bob began working together helping contractors and homeowners better understand the asbestos regulations and further develop the EnviroTest brand. On January 1, 2018, Kandi became a partner in the business.

Today, EnviroTest is proud to be a stand-alone asbestos survey company serving the Portland area. EnviroTest is the trusted testing service for construction companies, contractors, and DIY home remodelers.

Service Area

EnviroTest provides environmental testings services throughout the Portland metro area, as well as Vancouver and Southwest Washington.

We contact EnviroTest before we start any project requiring asbestos testing. One of the biggest things they do is a complete survey of all building materials. This is one of the most important steps to make sure there are no delays later. I would always recommend EnviroTest and they have a lifetime customer for all our projects.
