Hi, I’m Bob Strong. For nearly 40 years, I’ve worked in the construction and environmental testing industries. As the founder of EnviroTest, I am proud to provide the only stand-alone asbestos inspection and lead paint testing service for building owners, construction firms, and homeowners throughout the Portland metro area, including Vancouver and Southwest Washington. Asbestos Testing Portland, OR

If you’re planning a renovation or demolition project in a Portland Metro area home or commercial property, an asbestos inspection early in the process can save you thousands of dollars in costly delays. EnviroTest can conduct a survey of your building – sampling flooring, walls, siding, ceilings, roofing, insulation, and other materials likely to contain asbestos.

Our asbestos survey and reporting services:

  • Require as little as 30 minutes to take samples of suspected asbestos containing materials.
  • Include contracted lab testing and analysis. Full survey reports for submission to DEQ, L&I, and Metro are included.
  • Are lightning fast! Rush jobs and same-day service available.

Remember: In order to dispose of construction and remodeling debris at one of their transfer stations, Metro requires proof that the debris contains no more than 1% asbestos by weight. Commercial waste haulers and landfills will also require laboratory documentation of the contents of the load.

Lead Paint Testing Portland, OR

In addition to testing for asbestos, it is important to test for lead in paint, varnishes, and stains in homes built prior to 1978. In young children, lead may cause irreversible damage to the brain and central nervous system. In adults, lead has been shown to cause high blood pressure, reduced sex drive, and physical fatigue. Even unborn children may be affected.

All contractors who perform work on homes built before 1978 are required by law to be trained in Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair, and Painting – known as the RRP Rule. Before submitting a bid to perform renovation work, many contractors employ the services of EnviroTest to determine where lead paint is located in the home.

Our service is also used by homeowners planning DIY renovations to determine in advance where lead-safe renovation practices will be needed to protect their family’s health.

When performed in conjunction with asbestos testing, using EnviroTest to sample for lead paint:

  • Is extremely cost effective at only $10 per sample.
  • Provides immediate knowledge of where lead paint has been used. Testing takes less than 30 seconds per sample and the results are available immediately.
  • Saves time and money when prepping for renovation work. Performing renovation work under the RRP Rule is very time consuming. Don’t set up for it unless lead paint is present.

FAQs

1. Are you an asbestos testing lab?

No. At EnviroTest, we are a stand-alone asbestos inspection service for building owners, construction firms, and homeowners. This means that we survey the site for Asbestos Containing Material including collecting samples of materials that may contain asbestos and provide surveys and reports based on the tests from our trusted laboratory partners. If you already have an asbestos sample and laboratory analysis is your only need, please refer to this list of labs from State of Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ): http://www.deq.state.or.us/aq/asbestos/docs/F-LABS.pdf

2. How long does asbestos testing take?

Generally speaking, inspecting your property and collecting samples of materials that may contain asbestos will take about an hour. If your sample is delivered to the lab by 1PM, we can generally get the results that very same day.

3. Do you only test for asbestos?

In addition to asbestos testing service, we can also test for lead-based paint.

4. Can you come out today to test for asbestos or lead?

We welcome rush jobs and will do everything we can to get out to your property as quickly as possible.

5. Is asbestos dangerous?

The biggest misconception about asbestos is that it’s always dangerous. This just isn’t true. As long as asbestos is left alone, it’s generally harmless. It’s when asbestos is disturbed and becomes friable (can be powdered by hand) that it can be inhaled and cause health problems.

6. Do you work with contractors or homeowners?

Both! At EnviroTest, we’re happy to provide testing services to building owners, construction companies, remodeling contractors, and homeowners. While most clients are in the construction industry, homeowners often feel empowered knowing where asbestos and other potentially hazardous materials are located.

EnviroTest can help by inspecting and providing certification that your construction debris contains 1% or less asbestos by weight. If it contains more than 1% asbestos, we can help you find a reputable abatement contractor.

What areas do you serve?

EnviroTest’s testing services are available for homes and commercial properties in the Portland metro area, including Vancouver and SW Washington.

What certifications do you have?
